Traditionally, sangeet or the music ceremony, is part of the formal engagement that takes place a few days before the wedding in north Indian families, which is more of a "meet the families" affair. But today the concept is absolutely in vogue in all Indian marriages. In fact, the wedding is not complete without a sangeet. And the new-age sangeet is a fun event taking innovative directions such as "theme sangeet". There is a typical theme storyboard where family members put in long hours of practise for the event with professional help. A theme of the modern Mughal-e-Azam is enacted by family members interspersed with old Hindi film songs.
